Chanaka Kamal

Kamal (Chanaka Kamal) is a curious individual with a variety of interests. He currently works at the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, University of Peradeniya, as a research associate with the Sri Lankan research team for the One Health Poultry Hub at the Royal Veterinary College, UK. In 2021, he graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree with honours in Archaeology from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Philosophy degree in archaeology at the Postgraduate Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences at the same university. In terms of talents and skills, Kamal excels in drawing and painting. He is currently focusing on watercolour art, which he shares on social media platforms. Additionally, he possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills. His interests extend to pottery making, sculpting, bonsai, woodworking, preindustrial craft and technology, nature photography, eco-travelling, camping, trekking, building bushcraft and dugout shelters, blogging, and more. He is passionately dedicated to mastering these crafts through research and experimentation. Kamal is a detail-oriented and creative individual who finds aesthetically pleasing elements in everything, using them as inspiration for his paintings. Despite being a perfectionist, Kamal, as a self-taught artist, firmly believes that "anyone can paint." He emphasises patience as the key requirement for creating art. While one person may complete an artwork in seconds, another may take hours, days, weeks, or even months. The talented artist might finish it more quickly, whereas the less experienced artist may take longer to achieve the same quality. However, both will eventually complete the artwork, given enough perseverance. According to Kamal, anyone can paint, and he values the efforts of people more than the results, trusting in the gradual process of progress. Kamal aims to use his skills to bridge the gap between academia and the general public. To achieve this, he created the website www.kamalsjournal.com, where he shares knowledge and experiences in various fields of interest, empowering curiosity and inspiring understanding. His goal is to transform research-paper knowledge into everyday wisdom, making the content accessible to a broader audience, including those outside academia. He also strives to produce articles suitable for academic audiences. Starting with archaeology, his studied discipline, Kamal plans to share adventures and insights from each of the fields he is interested in.
